Abstract
An article including an aerosolizable material; and a signal altering component, wherein the signal altering component is configured to alter a first signal transmitted at least partially through the article into a second signal indicative of article data.
Claims21
An aerosol delivery device comprising:
- a chamber for receiving an article comprising an aerosolisable material for delivery by the aerosol delivery device;
- a heater for heating the article to generate an aerosol;
- a transmitter;
- a receiver spaced apart from the transmitter;
- and
- a processor configured to:
- cause the transmitter to transmit a first signal to the receiver, so that the receiver receives a second signal, wherein the second signal is the first signal altered by interaction with a signal altering component of an article in the chamber in use;
- determine whether a match can be identified between the second signal and one of a plurality of predetermined signals;
- determine that the article is not recognised if no match is found;
- and
- identify the signal altering component if a match is found, and thereby determine article data of the article,
- wherein the aerosol delivery device is configured to alter an aspect of its operation on the basis of the article data, and
- wherein the aspect of operation is a heating profile.
