Abstract
Pour-on pesticidal formulations for controlling pests on animals are provided. The formulations may include a pesticidally effective amount of a voltage-dependent sodium channel blocker, such as indoxacarb, in combination with a paraffinic oil carrier and, optionally, an oil-soluble surfactant and a rheology modifier. Methods of controlling pest infestations in animals, including cattle, are also provided, wherein the formulation is applied topically and diffuses across the animal's body to control ectoparasites such as horn flies and lice. Kits comprising the formulations and instructions for use are further disclosed.
Claims30
A method of controlling pest infestations in animals, the method comprising:
- pouring onto the external skin of the animal to be treated an effective amount of a pour-on formulation,
- wherein the formulation is capable of diffusing over the body of the animal when applied to a localized region of the domestic animal, thereby protecting the animal from pests;
- wherein the formulation comprises:
- a. a voltage-dependent sodium channel blocker insecticide that inhibits sodium current in the pest;
- and
- b. a paraffinic oil.
A method of controlling ectoparasites on cattle, the method comprising:
- administering to a bovine subject in need thereof a pour-on formulation comprising indoxacarb,
- wherein the administration of the formulation results in a reduction in a population of the ectoparasites on the bovine subject.
