Abstract
A dark-out apparatus is provided for use with a ventilation fan disposed on the wall of an agricultural building for passing ventilation air from one side to the other. The dark-out apparatus includes light-trapping media and first and second door members for holding the light-trapping media and being movable between open and closed positions and being openable away from the wall. When in the closed positions, the first and second door members cover a ventilation port of the fan, and when in the open positions, the first and second door members expose the ventilation port. When in the closed positions, distal sides of the first and second door members define an air gap. The air gap allows ventilation air to pass through, but does not allow ambient exterior light to pass through.
Claims19
A dark-out apparatus for use with a ventilation fan disposed on a wall of an agricultural building, the dark-out apparatus comprising:
- a housing;
- a first door attached to a first side of the housing;
- a second door attached to a second side of the housing, the first door and the second door configured to define an air gap therebetween when in a closed position, the air gap allowing ventilation air to pass therethrough and reducing light from passing therethrough;
- and
- light-trapping media held within panels defined by each of the first door and the second door.
An apparatus for use in an agricultural building for passing ventilation air between an exterior side and an interior side, the apparatus comprising:
- a ventilation fan mounted to a wall of the agricultural building, the ventilation fan comprising:
- a fan motor;
- a fan blade;
- and
- a fan base;
- and
- a dark-out apparatus mounted to the fan base, the dark-out apparatus comprising:
- a housing;
- a first door attached to a first side of the housing;
- a second door attached to a second side of the housing, the first door and the second door configured to define an air gap therebetween when in a closed position, the air gap allowing ventilation air to pass therethrough and reducing light from passing therethrough;
- and
- light-trapping media held within panels defined by each of the first door and the second door.
