Abstract
A smart network edge (SNE) selectively routes data packets via an optimal data path using available networks, either terrestrial or non-terrestrial. The SNE includes: a processor; a memory storing programming for the processor; a steerable antenna; and a number of modems corresponding to gateways in the available networks. The SNE is programmed to determine one or more selected data paths for data packets of a session based on avoiding or mitigating inter-constellation interference.
Claims16
A method comprising:
- identifying, at a user terminal equipped with a phased array antenna, one or more sidelobes of an antenna radiation pattern that are positioned such that they contribute to inter-constellation interference;
- determining, based on identification of the sidelobes, which of the sidelobes are to be selectively suppressed while preserving a desired main-lobe pointing direction and associated directivity;
- and
- performing targeted sidelobe suppression by applying one or more beamforming adjustments to the phased array antenna that suppress only the sidelobes determined to contribute to the inter-constellation interference, while maintaining main-lobe directivity for communication by the user terminal.

A method comprising:
- collecting, at a user terminal, one or more observed operating conditions associated with operation of the user terminal and its surrounding radio environment;
- providing the observed operating conditions as input to a machine learning model executed at the user terminal;
- predicting, by the machine learning model and based on the observed operating conditions, predicted interference comprising one or more inter-constellation interference events expected to affect operation of the user terminal;
- and
- employing the predicted interference representing the inter-constellation interference events from the machine learning model for interference mitigation by the user terminal.
2 more elements
A system comprising:
- a software-defined wide area network (SD-WAN) virtual link layer implemented at a user terminal and configured to obtain one or more measured performance metrics associated with a plurality of heterogeneous transports available to the user terminal;
- the SD-WAN virtual link layer further configured to evaluate the measured performance metrics to determine relative performance among the heterogeneous transports;
- and
- the SD-WAN virtual link layer further configured to dynamically select a data path for routing packets across the heterogeneous transports based on the measured performance metrics, and to route the packets over the selected data path.
