A non-transitory machine-readable medium, comprising executable instructions that, when executed by a processing system including a processor, facilitate performance of operations, the operations comprising:
- identifying a first communication device as a candidate for a multi-user multiple-input multiple-output (MU-MIMO) topology in respect of a first carrier, resulting in a first identification, wherein the first carrier supports frequencies within frequency range 2 (FR2);
- identifying a second communication device as a candidate for the MU-MIMO topology in respect of the first carrier, resulting in a second identification;
- pairing the first communication device and the second communication device as part of the MU-MIMO topology in respect of the first carrier based on the first identification and the second identification;
- identifying that the first communication device, the second communication device, or a combination thereof, is not to be paired with at least one other communication device as part of a MU-MIMO topology in respect of a second carrier, resulting in a third identification;
- and
- subjecting the first communication device, the second communication device, or the combination thereof, to a single-user multiple-input multiple-output (SU-MIMO) topology in respect of the second carrier in accordance with the third identification.
