Abstract
A radio-frequency amplification system can be achieved by providing an input signal to a variable size array of transistors of an amplifier and amplifying the input signal with the array to generate an amplified signal. One or more conditions associated with the amplifier can be monitored, and a control signal can be generated based on the monitored condition(s) to adjust the size of the array.
Claims22
A power amplification system comprising:
- a power amplifier including a variable size array of transistors;
- a monitoring system configured to monitor one or more conditions associated with the power amplifier;
- and
- a control system configured to obtain monitored information from the monitoring system, and based on the information, generate a control signal to adjust the size of the array of transistors.

A wireless system comprising:
- a baseband sub-system;
- a power amplifier configured to receive an analog signal representative of the digital signal and provide an amplified signal, the power amplifier including a variable size array of transistors;
- an antenna in communication with an output of the power amplifier and configured to support transmission of the amplified signal;
- and
- a monitor and adapt system configured to monitor one or more conditions associated with the power amplifier, and a control system configured to obtain monitored information from the monitoring system, and based on the information, generate a control signal to adjust the size of the array of transistors.

A power amplification system comprising:
- a power amplifier configured to receive an input signal and provide an amplified signal;
- and
- a monitor and adapt system configured to monitor one or more conditions associated with the power amplifier, and to adapt the power amplifier based on monitored information, the one or more conditions including forward power and reverse power at an output of the power amplifier, a supply current, an injection voltage point and temperature associated with the power amplifier, and sensed information from a plurality of locations of an array of the power amplifier, the adaptation including some or all of (1) adjustment of an operating parameter of the power amplifier based on the forward power and reverse power, (2) correction of either or both of a memory effect and a current collapse effect associated with the power amplifier, (3) generation of a pattern of one or more transistor properties over the array to allow operation of the array in a desired manner based on the pattern, and (4) adjustment of the size of the array.
