Abstract
A method cools an electric machine. The electric machine includes a cooling unit, a stator arranged in a housing, a rotor, and at least one cooling channel arranged on the stator. The method includes feeding a compressed cooling fluid through the at least one cooling channel, and releasing and decompressing the cooling fluid in a direction of the rotor via at least one nozzle formed on the at least one cooling channel, such that the cooling fluid undergoes a phase change from liquid to gaseous during expansion and an enthalpy of vaporization released during the phase change cools the rotor.
Claims15
A method for cooling an electric machine comprising a cooling unit, a stator arranged in a housing, a rotor, and at least one cooling channel arranged on the stator, the method comprising:
- feeding a compressed cooling fluid through the at least one cooling channel;
- and
- releasing and decompressing the cooling fluid in a direction of the rotor via at least one nozzle formed on the at least one cooling channel, such that the cooling fluid undergoes a phase change from liquid to gaseous during expansion, and an enthalpy of vaporization released during the phase change cools the rotor.
An electric machine for an electric vehicle, the electric machine comprising:
- a stator;
- a rotor;
- and a
- cooling unit,
- wherein the cooling unit comprises a at least one cooling channel arranged on the stator, the at least one cooling channel being configured to receive a compressed cooling fluid;
- wherein at least one nozzle is arranged on the at least one cooling channel, which is configured to convey the cooling fluid out of the at least one cooling channel in a direction of the rotor and such that the cooling fluid decompresses, such that heat dissipation from the rotor is based on a phase change of the cooling fluid from liquid to gaseous.
