A system and method is provided for interactively visualizing retail items for sale from different manufacturers within a virtual 3D representation or digital twin of a user space, thereby providing a photorealistic “try-before-you-buy” experience. In one embodiment, the host generates a 3D digital twin from a 2D photo or image of a user space. The user is then allowed to place and manipulate (position, scale, rotate, etc.) retail items (or 3D models thereof) within the digital twin. These items may be placed within an empty (decluttered) digital twin or together with items that were originally depicted within the digital place, with those items being 3D modeled for manipulation. The user can then participate in a unified checkout process where a single purchase on the host website effectuates multiple purchases (purchasing multiple items) from multiple merchants.
