Abstract
The description relates to adaptive data storage management. An example manages data within a database system using dynamically adjustable mini-pages within a buffer pool. The example involves receiving a request for a data item, adjusting mini-page sizes based on the request, and determining the data item's presence within these mini-pages. Upon locating the item, the request is executed on the relevant mini-page. The example also updates a mapping table to correlate mini-page identifiers with their locations in the database, and selectively caches or evicts the data item based on probabilities and access patterns.
Claims21
1-20. (canceled)
A computer-implemented method comprising:
- generating a tree data structure having leaf pages, the leaf pages being stored in persistent storage and having a corresponding storage page size;
- associating in-memory pages with respective leaf pages, wherein at least some of the in-memory pages are smaller than the corresponding storage page size of the leaf pages;
- receiving requests to perform operations on data items stored in the tree data structure;
- traversing the tree data structure to identify respective locations of the data items in the tree data structure;
- and
- performing the operations on the data items in the in-memory pages.
A system, comprising:
- a processor;
- a persistent storage device;
- a memory including instructions that, when executed by the processor, cause the system to:
- generate a tree data structure having leaf pages, the leaf pages being stored in the persistent storage device and having a corresponding storage page size;
- associate in-memory pages stored in the memory with respective leaf pages, wherein at least some of the in-memory pages are smaller than the corresponding storage page size of the leaf pages;
- receive requests to perform operations on data items stored in the tree data structure;
- traverse the tree data structure to identify respective locations of the data items in the tree data structure;
- and
- perform the operations on the data items in the in-memory pages.
A computer-readable storage medium storing instructions which, when executed by a processing device, cause the processing device to perform acts comprising:
- generating a tree data structure having leaf pages, the leaf pages being stored in persistent storage and having a corresponding storage page size;
- associating in-memory pages with respective leaf pages, wherein at least some of the in-memory pages are smaller than the corresponding storage page size of the leaf pages;
- receiving requests to perform operations on data items stored in the tree data structure;
- traversing the tree data structure to identify respective locations of the data items in the tree data structure;
- and
- performing the operations on the data items in the in-memory pages.
