Abstract
Techniques are provided for a data format for efficient management of checkpoint support. The data format corresponds to a base metafile and a set of instance metafiles used to track storage operations such as a directory restore operation. The base metafile and the set of instance metafiles can be used to resume the storage operation from where the storage operation left off in the event of a failure. The base metafile and the set of instance metafiles can be used to track progress of the storage operation processing objects stored within an object store of a cloud storage environment.
Claims20
A method, comprising:
- tracking, using metafiles, progress of a multi-level directory restore operation restoring a directory and subdirectories of the directory from backup data stored within objects of an object store hosted by a cloud storage environment;
- storing common operation information within a first metafile as a base entry, wherein the common operation information is common to sub operations of the multi-level directory restore operation;
- for each sub operation, storing an instance entry with information related to a sub operation into a second metafile;
- and
- utilizing the metafiles to recover the multi-level directory restore operation from a failure.
A computing device comprising:
- a memory storing instructions;
- and
- a processor coupled to the memory, the processor configured to execute the instructions to perform operations comprising:
- tracking, using metafiles, progress of a multi-level directory restore operation restoring a directory and subdirectories of the directory from backup data stored within objects of an object store hosted by a cloud storage environment;
- storing common operation information within a first metafile as a base entry, wherein the common operation information is common to sub operations of the multi-level directory restore operation;
- for each sub operation, storing an instance entry with information related to a sub operation into a second metafile;
- and
- utilizing the metafiles to recover the multi-level directory restore operation from a failure.
A non-transitory machine readable medium comprising instructions for performing a method,
- which when executed by a machine, causes the machine to perform operations comprising:
- tracking, using metafiles, progress of a multi-level directory restore operation restoring a directory and subdirectories of the directory from backup data stored within objects of an object store hosted by a cloud storage environment;
- storing common operation information within a first metafile as a base entry, wherein the common operation information is common to sub operations of the multi-level directory restore operation;
- for each sub operation, storing an instance entry with information related to a sub operation into a second metafile;
- and
- utilizing the metafiles to recover the multi-level directory restore operation from a failure.
