Position-based initiation of auto unloading operation

A control system for a material transfer vehicle, the control system comprising:

• at least one processor;
• and
• memory storing instructions executable by the at least one processor, wherein the instructions, when executed, cause the control system to:
• control the material transfer vehicle based on a navigation path from a location of the material transfer vehicle to a location corresponding to a material receiving container;
• determine that a position-based criterion is met based on one or more position characteristics of the material transfer vehicle relative to the material receiving container;
• and
• based on a determination that the position-based criterion is met, control an unloading operation of the material transfer vehicle using an auto unloading system to automatically transfer material from the material transfer vehicle to the material receiving container.

An agricultural system comprising:

• a first control system configured to autonomously control navigation of a material transfer vehicle along a route toward a receiving container;
• a second control system configured to autonomously execute a material transfer operation by positioning the material transfer vehicle relative to the receiving container and transferring agricultural material from the material transfer vehicle into the receiving container;
• a parameter processor configured to derive a position-based parameter indicative of a characteristic of a position of the material transfer vehicle relative to the receiving container;
• and
• a handoff generator configured to trigger the second control system to autonomously execute the material transfer operation based on the position-based parameter.

An agricultural system comprising:

• a navigation system configured to control a material transfer vehicle in a first control mode based on a navigation path;
• an auto unloading system configured to control the material transfer vehicle in a second control mode in which material is automatically transferred from the material transfer vehicle to a container;
• and
• a control system configured to:
• compute a position-based parameter indicative of a characteristic of a position of the material transfer vehicle relative to the container;
• and
• transition control of the material transfer vehicle from the first control mode to the second control mode based on the position-based parameter.
