Spectacles with sandwiched polymer structure

An adjustable ophthalmic lens comprising:

• a first transparent cover member comprising a proximal surface;
• a second transparent cover member comprising a distal surface, wherein the proximal surface is arranged to face an eye and the distal surface is arranged to face away from the eye when the adjustable ophthalmic lens is in use;
• a transparent deformable body disposed between the first transparent cover member and the second transparent cover member;
• one or more actuators configured to generate a displacement in a direction normal or substantially normal to the proximal surface or the distal surface;
• a sliding contact coupled to the actuator and in contact with the proximal surface or the distal surface at a contact location, the sliding contact configured to alter a shape of the first cover member or the second cover member in response to displacement by the one or more actuators, the sliding contact comprising an elastic element, wherein, during actuation of the one or more actuators, the contact location is displaced along the proximal surface or the distal surface relative to the one or more actuators, and wherein the elastic element is configured to elastically deform to accommodate the displacement of the contact location along the proximal surface or the distal surface while transmitting displacement of the actuator in the actuator displacement direction to the proximal surface or the distal surface.

An adjustable ophthalmic lens comprising:

• a first transparent cover member comprising a proximal surface;
• a second transparent cover member comprising a distal surface, wherein the proximal surface is arranged to face an eye and the distal surface is arranged to face away from the eye when the adjustable ophthalmic lens is in use;
• a transparent deformable body disposed between the first transparent cover member and the second transparent cover member;
• an annular volume defined at least in part by the first transparent cover member,
• the second transparent cover member, and an outer edge of the transparent deformable body, the annular volume configured to allow expansion of the outer edge of the transparent deformable body when force is applied to the first transparent cover member or the second transparent cover member;
• and
• one or more actuators configured to exert force on the first transparent cover member or the second transparent cover member in a direction normal or substantially normal to the proximal surface or the distal surface.
