Pairing with companion device

A display system comprising:

• a head mountable display;
• memory storing executable instructions;
• and one or more processors in communication with the memory and the display, the one or more processors programmed by the executable instructions to perform operations comprising:
• receiving a first request to form a first connection between the display system and a first companion device;
• responsive to receiving the first request to form the first connection, determining first data to be used in authenticating the first connection between the display system and the first companion device;
• receiving a second request to form a second connection between the display system and a second companion device;
• responsive to receiving the second request to form the second connection, determining second data to be used in authenticating the second connection between the display system and the second companion device;
• transmitting the first data and the second data in a same transmission to an authentication device that is configured to:
• i) authenticate the first connection based at least in part on comparing the first data to third data that is received by the authentication device from the first companion device, and ii) authenticate the second connection based at least in part on comparing the second data to fourth data that is received by the authentication device from the second companion device;
• receiving, from the authentication device, a confirmation of a successful authentication of the first connection and a successful authentication of the second connection, wherein the successful authentication of the first connection is determined by the authentication device based at least partly on determining a match between the first data and the third data, and wherein the successful authentication of the second connection is determined by the authentication device based at least partly on determining a match between the second data and the fourth data;
• and in response to receiving the confirmation of the successful authentication of the first connection and the second connection, permitting bi-directional communication of data between the first companion device and the display system using the first connection, permitting bi-directional communication of data between the second companion device and the display system using the second connection, and presenting, through the display, a notification to the user of the display system that the first connection and the second connection have been authenticated.
