Low-Power Proximity Sensing System for Pets

A pet proximity detection system comprising:

• a transmitter module configured to emit light pulses, wherein
• the transmitter module comprises a pulse generator configured to generate electrical pulses and an optical emitter configured to emit the light pulses in response to the electrical pulses;
• a receiver module configured to detect the light pulses and determine whether the transmitter module is within a predefined proximity range, wherein
• the receiver module comprises a photodetector configured to detect the light pulses and a pulse detector configured to process signals from the photodetector to determine a proximity between the transmitter module and the receiver module;
• and
• an alarm module operatively coupled to the receiver module and configured to activate an alarm in response to a determination that the transmitter module is within the predefined proximity range;
• wherein
• at least one of the transmitter module and the receiver module is attached to or integrated into a pet collar.
