System and method for modular installation of loops of a radio frequency coil

A modular assembly for assembling a radio frequency receiving coil assembly for a magnetic imaging system, comprising:

• a holding structure configured to hold a flexible loop of the radio frequency receiving coil assembly, wherein the flexible loop has a malleable conductor;
• an electronics unit coupled to the holding structure;
• and
• mechanical fasteners configured to attach the electronics unit, the holding structure, and the flexible loop to a material substrate layer configured to be disposed within a flexible enclosure, wherein the holding structure is configured to maintain a position of the flexible loop on the material substrate layer as the one or more mechanical fasteners is fastened to the holding structure to attach both the holding structure and the respective loop to the material substrate layer.

A method for modular assembly and repair of a radio frequency coil for a magnetic imaging system, comprising:

• providing a material substrate layer;
• placing a modular assembly comprising a holding structure holding a flexible loop of the radio frequency coil on the material substrate layer, wherein the flexible loop has a malleable conductor;
• aligning the holding structure and the flexible loop to a position on the material substrate layer;
• and
• fastening the holding structure and the flexible loop to the material substrate layer.
