Abstract
Formation of a sterile connection includes inserting a first aseptic coupling device into a second aseptic coupling device, removing a first membrane from the first aseptic coupling device and a second membrane from the second aseptic coupling device, and rotating a locking clip on the first aseptic coupling device to compress a first seal member of the first aseptic coupling device with a second seal member of the second aseptic coupling device to form a sterile fluid passageway.

1-16. (canceled)
An aseptic coupling device comprising:
- a member defining a fluid passage therethrough and including a front surface defining an opening, wherein the member defines a longitudinal axis along the fluid passage;
- a seal member positioned in the opening, wherein a portion of the seal member projects outward from the front surface;
- and
- a membrane comprising:
- a first portion covering the portion of the seal member that projects outward from the front surface;
- a folded portion;
- and
- a tail portion extending from the folded portion to a free end and extending from the folded portion in a direction in which the tail portion is configured to be pulled to remove the membrane.
An aseptic coupling device comprising:
- a member defining a fluid passage therethrough and including a front surface defining an opening, wherein the member defines at least one slot and a longitudinal axis along the fluid passage;
- a seal member positioned in the opening;
- a membrane comprising:
- a first portion covering the seal member;
- a folded portion;
- and
- a tail portion extending from the folded portion to a free end and extending from the folded portion in a direction in which the tail portion is configured to be pulled to remove the membrane;
- and
- a clip received in the at least one slot defined by the member in a direction transverse to the longitudinal axis, the clip configured to secure the aseptic coupling device to a mating aseptic coupling device.
