Abstract
The present disclosure relates to variable light transmission panels (VLTPs) which are used for architectural applications such as large-area building entryway systems including overhead doors for residential, commercial, industrial and government warehouses, commercial and rollup doors. The optical transmission of the VLTPs is reversibly changed by applying an electrical voltage. Doors and windows having these VLTPs may also have other electronic devices which provide added user functionality.
Claims24
A large-area entryway system comprising a movable door element with at least one variable light transmission panel (VLTP), wherein the VLTP is configured to change optical transmission and color from a clear state to a colored state upon application of an electric voltage thereto, wherein the clear state and the colored state in transmission have a color difference ΔE* equal to or greater than 35 and configured such that said application of voltage does not change opacity of the VLTP by changing haze.
A large-area entryway system comprising:
- a) a movable overhead door element having at least one variable light transmission panel (VLTP), wherein the VLTP is configured to change optical transmission upon application of an electric voltage thereto;
- and b) a power modulator which provides the electric voltage to the VLTP, wherein a received voltage profile received by the power modulator is less than or equal to 48V and is different from an output voltage profile outputted by the power modulator to the VLTP.
A large-area entryway system having a movable overhead door element comprising a movable overhead door to a building, wherein the overhead door element has at least one variable light transmission panel (VLTP), wherein the VLTP is configured to change optical transmission and color from a clear state to a colored state upon application of an electric voltage thereto, wherein the clear state and the colored state in transmission have a color difference ΔE* equal to or greater than 35 and configured such that said application of voltage does not change opacity of the VLTP by changing haze.
