Abstract
The invention relates to a foam composition for use in the manufacture of a foam article, the foam composition comprising: 15% w/w to 50%/w/w partially hydrolysed collagen; ii. 30%/w/w to 60%/w/w one or more polyols; iii. 15% w/w to 40%/w/w cross-linking agent; and iv. 0.5%/w/w to 3%/w/w organic acid, wherein the partially hydrolysed collagen has a Bloom gel strength score of between 300 g and 600 g as measured according to the method defined in ISO9665. The invention further relates to a method of producing a foam article using the same foam composition. The invention further relates to a foam article produced using the method of the present invention.
Claims27
A foam composition for use in the manufacture of a foam article the foam composition comprising:
- i. 15% w/w to 50% w/w partially hydrolysed collagen;
- ii. 30% w/w to 60% w/w one or more polyols;
- iii. 15% w/w to 40% w/w cross-linking agent;
- and
- iv. 0.5% w/w to 3% w/w organic acid,
- wherein the partially hydrolysed collagen has a Bloom gel strength score of between 300 g and 600 g.

A method of manufacturing a foam article having a foam composition comprising:
- i. 15% w/w to 50% w/w partially hydrolysed collagen;
- ii. 30% w/w to 60% w/w one or more polyols;
- iii. 15% w/w to 40% w/w cross-linking agent;
- and
- iv. 0.5% w/w to 3% w/w organic acid,
- wherein the partially hydrolysed collagen has a Bloom gel strength score of between 300 g and 600 g, the method comprising:
- i. combining the organic acid and the partially hydrolysed collagen;
- ii. combining the mixture of step (i) with one or more polyols;
- iii. mixing the mixture of step (ii)
- iv. adding the cross-linking agent to the mixture of step (iii);
- v. applying the mixture from step (iv) to a mould;
- vi. heating the mould to between 25° C.;
- and 50° C.;
- and
- vii. cooling the mould to enable curing of the mixture from step (iv).

A foam article manufactured from a foam composition comprising:
- i. 15% w/w to 50% w/w partially hydrolysed collagen;
- ii. 30% w/w to 60% w/w one or more polyols;
- iii. 15% w/w to 40% w/w cross-linking agent;
- and
- iv. 0.5% w/w to 3% w/w organic acid, wherein the partially hydrolysed collagen has a Bloom gel strength score of between 300 g and 600 g.
