Disclosed is a method for producing a musk fragrance intermediate by reacting an alcohol with an epoxide in the presence of CuCl2 or CuBr2 or both as catalyst.

A method for producing a musk fragrance intermediate comprising reacting an alcohol with an epoxide in the presence of a metal salt, preferably a copper salt and most preferably CuCl2 or CuBr2 or both as catalyst thereby producing a musk fragrance intermediate.
