A hybrid cementitious material is disclosed which can be used for roof support in underground mines, and includes a first mixture and a second mixture. The first mixture can include a precursor, a superplasticizer and water, the precursor including fly ash, cement kiln dust, and/or ordinary Portland cement; the second mixture can include water, sodium hydroxide, sodium silicate and a biopolymer. The first mixture and second mixture can have sufficiently low viscosity to be pumpable over long distances such that upon arrival at a desired location, the first and second mixtures can be combined to form the cementitious material. The cementitious material when cured combines advantageous properties including: high peak and residual compressive strength, and good stability when exposed to air. Example methods are also provided for preparing the hybrid cementitious material.
