Abstract
Disclosed is a method of recycling reclaimed concrete by adding a composition comprising an alkaliphilic and psychrophilic microbe capable of depositing calcium carbonate to the reclaimed concrete during or after crushing or grinding. Also disclosed is a method of improving the properties of recycled concrete aggregates during storage at temperatures below 20° C. by adding a composition comprising at least one alkaliphilic and psychrophilic microbial culture capable of depositing calcium carbonate to the recycled concrete aggregate. Further provided is concrete aggregate characterized in comprising at least one culture comprising alkaliphilic and psychrophilic microbes that are capable of inducing calcium carbonate deposition.
Claims26
A method of recycling reclaimed concrete comprising crushing or grinding reclaimed concrete to obtain concrete aggregates, wherein at least one composition comprising an alkaliphilic and psychrophilic microbe capable of depositing calcium carbonate is added to the reclaimed concrete during or after the crushing or grinding, thereby obtaining a recycled concrete aggregate comprising at least one alkaliphilic and psychrophilic microbial culture.
Recycled concrete aggregate characterized in that the aggregate comprises at least one culture comprising alkaliphilic and psychrophilic microbes that are capable of inducing calcium carbonate deposition.
