Abstract
The present disclosure describes compositions for cementitious materials and methods for making the same. The cementitious materials may be chemically activated concrete materials that utilize industrial byproducts and/or natural material, which may offer an environmentally friendly alternative to Portland cement and other traditional cement materials, lire cementitious materials may replace Portland, cement or be added to Portland cement to form construction materials.

A cementitious material comprising:
- a chemical activator that includes one or more of potassium silicates, potassium carbonate, potassium phosphate, potassium bicarbonate, potassium nitrate, potassium hydroxide, potassium oxide, potassium sulfate, sodium silicates, sodium carbonate, sodium phosphate, sodium bicarbonate, sodium nitrate, sodium hydroxide, sodium oxide, sodium sulfate, calcium nitrate, calcium silicates, calcium hydroxide, calcium oxide, calcium aluminates, calcium sulfate, calcium aluminum silicates, calcium silicate hydrates, calcium aluminum silicate hydrates;
- and
- an industrial byproduct and/or natural material that includes one or more of ferrous slag, non-ferrous slag, converter steel slag, air-cooled slag, Solvay phosphorous slag, bauxite slag/residue, zinc slag, lead slag, electric arc furnace (EAF) slag, granulated, blast furnace slag, ladle slag, copper slag, mine tales, zeolites, clay, volcanic lava, volcanic tuffs, metakaolin, calcined shale, silica fume gaize, biomass ash, halloysite, calcined clay, basalt, granite, pumice, natural pozzolans, bottom ash, fly ash, cement kiln dust, fine waste glass powder derived from waste glass, mining waste (for example, Belterra clay), a finely ground waste concrete powder derived from construction and demolition waste, or rubble, and EAF dust together with lime kiln dust, or municipal solid waste incineration ash.
A method of making a cementitious material comprising:
- contacting an industrial byproduct and/or natural material with one or more of a chemical activator or water,
- mixing the industrial byproduct and/or natural material with one or more of the chemical activator or the water to thereby form a cementitious material,
- wherein the chemical activator includes one or more of potassium silicates, potassium carbonate, potassium phosphate, potassium bicarbonate, potassium nitrate, potassium hydroxide, potassium oxide, potassium sulfate, sodium silicates, sodium carbonate, sodium phosphate, sodium bicarbonate, sodium nitrate, sodium hydroxide, sodium oxide, sodium sulfate, calcium nitrate, calcium silicates, calcium hydroxide, calcium oxide, calcium aluminates, calcium sulfate, calcium aluminum silicates, calcium silicate hydrates, calcium aluminum silicate hydrates, and
- wherein the industrial byproduct or natural material includes one or more of ferrous slag, non-ferrous slag, converter steel slag, air-cooled slag, Solvay phosphorous slag, bauxite slag/residue, zinc slag, lead slag, electric arc furnace (EAF) slag, granulated, blast furnace slag, ladle slag, copper slag, mine tales, zeolites, clay, volcanic lava, volcanic tuffs, metakaolin, calcined shale, silica fume gaize, biomass ash, halloysite, calcined clay, basalt, granite, pumice, natural pozzolans, bottom ash, fly ash, cement kiln dust, fine waste glass powder derived from waste glass, mining waste (for example, Belterra clay), a finely ground waste concrete powder derived from construction and demolition waste, or rubble, and EAF dust together with lime kiln dust, or municipal solid waste incineration ash.
