Abstract

Various embodiments of the present disclosure disclose a vehicle that performs a minimal risk maneuver (MRM) and a method for operating the vehicle. Disclosed is an autonomous driving vehicle, including: at least one sensor configured to sense a surrounding environment of the vehicle to generate surrounding environment information; a processor configured to monitor a state of the vehicle to generate vehicle state information and to control autonomous driving of the vehicle; and a controller configured to control operation of the vehicle according to control of the processor, and the processor may be configured to sense whether minimal risk maneuver is needed based on at least one among the surrounding environment information and the vehicle state information during autonomous driving of the vehicle; and to control at least one function of the vehicle such that the vehicle is stopped on a road shoulder when the minimal risk maneuver is needed.
