Abstract
A system for navigating a host vehicle receives a plurality of captured images acquired by at least one camera onboard the host vehicle. The system determines an actual velocity vector for the host vehicle based on the plurality of captured images and compares the actual velocity vector to an expected velocity vector. The system also determines a lateral slip angle based on an observed angular difference between the actual velocity vector and the expected velocity vector. The system causes the host vehicle navigation system to take at least one action based on the determined lateral slip angle.
Claims23
A system for navigating a host vehicle relative to a road segment, the system comprising:
- at least one processor comprising circuitry and a memory, wherein the memory includes instructions that when executed by the circuitry cause the at least one processor to:
- receive a plurality of captured images acquired by at least one camera onboard the host vehicle;
- determine an actual velocity vector for the host vehicle based on the plurality of captured images;
- compare the actual velocity vector to an expected velocity vector;
- determine a lateral slip angle based on an observed angular difference between the actual velocity vector and the expected velocity vector;
- and
- cause the host vehicle navigation system to take at least one action based on the determined lateral slip angle.
A method for navigating a host vehicle relative to a road segment, the method comprising:
- receiving a plurality of captured images acquired by at least one camera onboard the host vehicle;
- determining an actual velocity vector for the host vehicle based on the plurality of captured images;
- comparing the actual velocity vector to an expected velocity vector;
- determining a lateral slip angle based on an observed angular difference between the actual velocity vector and the expected velocity vector;
- and
- causing the host vehicle navigation system to take at least one action based on the determined lateral slip angle.
A non-transitory computer-readable medium storing instructions that, when executed by one or more processors, cause the one or more processors to perform a method comprising:
- receiving a plurality of captured images acquired by at least one camera onboard the host vehicle;
- determining an actual velocity vector for the host vehicle based on the plurality of captured images;
- comparing the actual velocity vector to an expected velocity vector;
- determining a lateral slip angle based on an observed angular difference between the actual velocity vector and the expected velocity vector;
- and
- causing the host vehicle navigation system to take at least one action based on the determined lateral slip angle.
