Abstract
A knife blade has different edge regions with different compositions. The different edge regions allow for different materials on the same edge of the blade, such as the lower edge. The different materials can vary in terms of characteristics such as hardness, toughness/brittleness, corrosion resistance, formability, ease of manufacturing and availability. The solutions provide a correspondence between the selected materials and/or geometry of the different edge regions of the blade and the intended uses and functions of the regions, to optimize the performance of the knife.
Claims20
A knife, comprising:
- a blade;
- and
- a handle attached to the blade, wherein the blade comprises a cutting edge having different respective edge regions made of different respective materials, with different respective properties.
A method for forming a knife blade, comprising:
- forming a blade body using a fine-blanking process, laser-cutting, or injection molding;
- and
- depositing different respective materials with different respective properties on different respective edge regions of a cutting edge of the blade body using laser metal deposition.
