Abstract
Provided herein are systems and methods for processing analytes. Such systems and methods for processing analytes include, for example, systems and methods for sequencing nucleic acid samples. Analytes may be processed on an open substrate. Substrates may be supported from a bottom surface or a top surface, such as in a cantilever configuration.

A system for processing analytes, comprising:
- a chamber;
- a lid plate, wherein the lid plate and chamber are configured to close and open with respect to each other, wherein the chamber and lid plate enclose a sample environment configured to receive a substrate therein;
- a detector that penetrates the lid plate into the sample environment;
- a fluid dispenser that penetrates the lid plate into the sample environment;
- and
- a chuck that penetrates the lid plate into the sample environment, wherein the chuck is configured to affix to a top surface of the substrate to support the substrate in the sample environment.
