Abstract
A multi-layer fabric construction to mitigate toxic chemical agents, the construction comprises a gas-permeable carbon layer and a gas-permeable adsorbent layer comprising a web of entangled organic polymeric microfibers and a plurality of particles of a metal organic framework (MOF) material substantially uniformly dispersed in the web. The construction may include an inner fabric layer, a vapor-permeable layer and an outer fabric layer.
Claims25
A multi-layer fabric construction configured to mitigate toxic chemical agents, comprising:
- (a) a gas-permeable adsorbent layer comprising a nonwoven porous scaffold of entangled polymeric microfibers defining interconnected voids and a plurality of adsorbent particles mechanically retained within the scaffold at one or more depths;
- and
- (b) a vapor-permeable layer disposed adjacent to the gas-permeable adsorbent layer.
A multi-layer fabric construction comprising a vapor-permeable layer, a gas-permeable adsorbent layer, and a separate gas-permeable carbon layer, wherein the gas-permeable adsorbent layer contains a plurality of MOF particles.
A method of manufacturing a multi-layer fabric construction, the method comprising the steps of:
- providing a gas-permeable adsorbent layer containing a plurality of adsorbent particles;
- providing a subassembly comprising a vapor-permeable layer and an outer fabric layer;
- and,
- securing the gas-permeable adsorbent layer to the subassembly.
