Abstract
A working electrode includes a substrate and a CO2 adsorbent supported by the substrate. The CO2 adsorbent is configured to bind to CO2 contained in a CO2-containing gas in response to an application of a voltage between a counter electrode and the working electrode, which causes electrons to be supplied from the counter electrode to the CO2 adsorbent. The substrate is made of a non-carbon material. The CO2 adsorbent is made of an inorganic material. The working electrode is substantially free of carbon.
Claims11
A working electrode comprising:
- a substrate and a CO2 adsorbent supported by the substrate, wherein
- the CO2 adsorbent is configured to bind to CO2 contained in a CO2-containing gas in response to an application of a voltage between a counter electrode and the working electrode, which causes electrons to be supplied from the counter electrode to the CO2 adsorbent,
- the substrate is made of a non-carbon material,
- the CO2 adsorbent is made of an inorganic material, and
- the working electrode is substantially free of carbon.
An electrochemical cell comprising:
- a working electrode that includes a substrate and a CO2 adsorbent supported by the substrate;
- a counter electrode;
- and
- an electrolyte that covers the working electrode and the counter electrode, wherein
- the CO2 adsorbent is configured to bind to CO2 contained in a CO2-containing gas in response to an application of a voltage between the counter electrode and the working electrode, which causes electrons to be supplied from the counter electrode to the CO2 adsorbent,
- the substrate is made of a non-carbon material,
- the CO2 adsorbent is made of an inorganic material,
- the working electrode is substantially free of carbon, and
- the electrolyte is an ionic liquid.
A manufacturing method of a working electrode that includes a substrate and a CO2 adsorbent supported by the substrate, wherein
- the CO2 adsorbent is configured to bind to CO2 contained in a CO2-containing gas in response to an application of a voltage between a counter electrode and the working electrode, which causes electrons to be supplied from the counter electrode to the CO2 adsorbent,
- the substrate is made of a non-carbon material,
- the CO2 adsorbent is made of an inorganic material, and
- the working electrode is substantially free of carbon,
- the manufacturing method comprising precipitating the CO2 adsorbent on a surface of the substrate in a polyol solution by a polyol reduction reaction.
