Abstract
Surgical systems can include evacuation systems for evacuating smoke, fluid, and/or particulates from a surgical site. A surgical evacuation system can be intelligent and may include one or more sensors for detecting one or more properties of the surgical system, evacuation system, surgical procedure, surgical site, and/or patient tissue, for example.

1-20. (canceled)
A surgical evacuation system, comprising:
- a pump;
- a motor coupled to the pump;
- a flow path fluidically coupled to the pump;
- a pre-filter sensor positioned along the flow path upstream of a filter, wherein the filter is positioned in the flow path;
- a post-filter sensor positioned along the flow path downstream of the filter;
- and
- a processor configured to:
- operate in a standby mode, wherein the standby mode is configured to operate the motor using a standby mode speed;
- receive a pre-filter measurement from the pre-filter sensor;
- determine that the pre-filter measurement is greater than a pre-filter threshold;
- based on the determination that the pre-filter measurement is greater than the pre-filter threshold, switch to an automatic evacuation mode, wherein the automatic evacuation mode is configured to increase a speed of the motor, from the standby mode speed to an automatic evacuation mode speed, and wherein the automatic evacuation mode speed is greater than the standby mode speed;
- receive a post-filter measurement from the post-filter sensor;
- and
- automatically adjust the automatic evacuation mode speed based on the post-filter measurement, wherein to automatically adjust the automatic evacuation mode speed based on the post-filter measurement comprises the processor being configured to:
- determine that the post-filter measurement is greater than a first post-filter threshold,
- based on the determination that the post-filter measurement is greater than the first post-filter threshold, compare the post-filter measurement to a second post-filter threshold, and
- based on a determination that the post-filter measurement is less than the second post-filter threshold, decrease the speed of the motor.

A method, comprising:
- operating in a standby mode, wherein the standby mode is configured to operate a motor using a standby mode speed;
- receiving a pre-filter measurement from a pre-filter sensor, wherein the pre-filter sensor is positioned along a flow path upstream of a filter, wherein the filter is positioned in the flow path, wherein the flow path is fluidically coupled to a pump, and wherein the motor is coupled to the pump;
- determining that the pre-filter measurement is greater than a pre-filter threshold;
- based on the determination that the pre-filter measurement is greater than the pre-filter threshold, switching to an automatic evacuation mode, wherein the automatic evacuation mode is configured to increase a speed of the motor, from the standby mode speed to an automatic evacuation mode speed, and wherein the automatic evacuation mode speed is greater than the standby mode speed;
- receiving a post-filter measurement from a post-filter sensor, wherein the post-filter sensor is positioned along the flow path downstream of the filter;
- and
- automatically adjusting the automatic evacuation mode speed based on the post-filter measurement, wherein automatically adjusting the automatic evacuation mode speed based on the post-filter measurement comprises:
- determining that the post-filter measurement is greater than a first post-filter threshold,
- based on the determination that the post-filter measurement is greater than the first post-filter threshold, comparing the post-filter measurement to a second post-filter threshold, and
- based on a determination that the post-filter measurement is less than the second post-filter threshold, decreasing the speed of the motor.
