Device and method for treatment of part of a human body

A system for treating skin tissue comprising at least one of a hypodermis, dermis, or mucosal tissue, the system comprising:

• one or more generators, the one or more generators configured to generate radio frequency (RF) signals and pulsed electric field (PEF) signals;
• an applicator electrically coupled to the one or more generators, the applicator configured to deliver an RF field and a PEF to the skin tissue based on the RF signals and the PEF signals from the one or more generators, the applicator comprising a plurality of energy delivery elements configured to deliver the RF field and the PEF to the skin tissue;
• and
• a control unit in communication with the one or more generators and/or the one or more applicators, the control unit configured to control the delivery of the RF field and the PEF to the skin tissue during a single application of the applicator;
• wherein the RF field is configured to cause destruction of cells and non-cellular tissue contained in the skin tissue by heating;
• and
• wherein the PEF is configured to cause electroporation of cell membranes contained in the skin tissue.

A method of treating of a skin tissue comprising at least one of a hypodermis, dermis, or mucosal tissue, the method comprising:

• providing one or more generators configured to generate radio frequency (RF) signals and pulsed electric field (PEF) signals;
• providing at least one applicator including at least one energy delivery element, wherein the at least one energy delivery element is electrically coupled to the one or more generators;
• applying an RF field and PEF from the one or more energy delivery elements to the skin tissue based on the RF signals and PEF signals from the one or more generators;
• causing heating of the skin tissue via the RF field;
• and
• causing an electroporation of cell membranes included in the skin tissue via the PEF;
• wherein the application of the RF field results in destruction of cells and non-cellular tissue by heating in a first area in the skin tissue;
• and
• wherein the application of the PEF results in destruction of cells by electroporation of cell membranes in a second area in the skin tissue.
