Abstract
A system to provide weight bearing simulation includes a plate; a strap to hold the plate to a foot; and a device configured to mount to the plate and adjust a position of the foot to the plate.
Claims28
A system for simulating weight bearing during foot surgery, the system comprising:
- a substantially planar plate configured to provide a weight-bearing surface for a patient's foot;
- a first clamp configured to secure the plate, the first clamp including a base and an arm;
- an adjuster attached to the arm of the first clamp;
- a pivot joint connecting the first clamp to a second clamp, the pivot joint configured to permit angulation and fixation of the plate relative to a surgical table and a lock to selectively fix an angular position of the plate.

A system for simulating weight bearing during foot surgery, the system comprising:
- a support having a bottom surface and an angled surface;
- and
- a radiolucent, substantially planar plate supported by the angled surface such that the plate is held at an angle with respect to the bottom surface, the plate configured to receive a patient's foot for simulating weight bearing during a surgical procedure.
A system for simulating weight bearing during foot surgery, the system comprising:
- a radiolucent, substantially planar plate having a superior surface and an inferior surface, the plate including a heel locator, a midfoot region, a through-slot located between the heel locator and the midfoot region, and a plurality of pegboard holes;
- a strap configured to be routed through the through-slot to secure the plate to a patient's foot across the midfoot region;
- and
- a toe distractor mountable to the plate via the pegboard holes, the toe distractor comprising:
- a ratchet shaft having teeth;
- a pin attached to and protruding from the ratchet shaft and configured to receive a toe grabber attached to a phalanx;
- a lock configured to engage the teeth of the ratchet shaft to hold the ratchet shaft in a distracted position;
- and
- a handle configured to draw the ratchet shaft and attached phalanx away from a metatarsophalangeal joint.

A method of performing foot surgery, the method comprising:
- providing a radiolucent, substantially planar plate having a superior surface and an inferior surface, the plate including a heel locator, a midfoot region, a through-slot located between the heel locator and the midfoot region, and a plurality of pegboard holes;
- securing a patient's foot to the plate by routing a strap from the superior surface through the through-slot to the inferior surface, around an angled webbing guide mounted to the inferior surface under the through-slot, and back to the superior surface to hold the plate to the patient's foot across the midfoot region;
- mounting a toe distractor to the plate via the pegboard holes;
- and
- distracting a metatarsophalangeal joint by pulling a ratchet shaft of the toe distractor to separate a phalanx from a metatarsal, wherein teeth on the ratchet shaft are engaged by a lock to maintain the distraction.
