Abstract
A method and apparatus for hanging a framed item having a frame with spaced-apart lateral rails includes a stepped support plate, a hanging ring for engaging a wall fastener and a spindle about which the hanging ring is pivotable. Before securing the stepped support plate to the lateral rail, the hanging ring is pivotable through substantially 180 degrees of rotation. When the stepped support plate secured to the lateral rail, a surface of the lateral rail pushes the spindle laterally into a position wherein a spindle support tab is operable to engage a hanging ring tab to limit the rotation of the hanging ring.
