Abstract
A system for rocking a bedframe has a base, a first set of roller supports joined to the base, a second set of roller supports joined to the base, a bedframe having head, foot and a first and a second side member, a first arcuate member joined at opposite ends to the side members of the bedframe and constrained in two rollers, a second arcuate member rigidly joined at opposite ends to the side members of the bedframe and constrained in two rollers, a motor supported on the base, a first link securely engaged to an output shaft of the motor, and a second link pivotally engaged to an end of the first link away from the output shaft of the motor, the second link pivotally engaged at an opposite end to the first side member of the bedframe. The motor rotating imparts an arcuate rocking motion to the bedframe.
Claims20
A system for imparting motion to a bedframe, comprising:
- a planar base;
- a first set of two roller supports spaced apart by a first distance and joined to the base, each supporting a roller;
- a second set of two roller supports spaced apart by the first distance and joined to the base, each supporting a roller;
- a bedframe having head, foot and a first and a second side member spaced apart by a second distance;
- a first rigid arcuate member configured to a specific arc length and arc radius rigidly joined at opposite ends to the side members of the bedframe with the arc facing downward and constrained in the two rollers supported on the first set of two roller supports;
- a second rigid arcuate member configured to a specific arc length and arc radius rigidly joined at opposite ends to the side members of the bedframe with the arc facing downward and constrained in the two rollers supported on the second set of two roller supports;
- a motor supported on the planar base midway between the first and the second side members of the bedframe;
- a first link securely engaged to an output shaft of the motor;
- and
- a second link pivotally engaged to an end of the first link away from the output shaft of the motor, the second link pivotally engaged at an opposite end to the first side member of the bedframe;
- wherein the motor rotating imparts a sinusoidal motion to the bedframe alternately raising and lowering opposite sides of the bedframe, imparting a true arcuate rocking motion to the bedframe.
A method for imparting motion to a bedframe, comprising:
- placing a first aet of two roller supports and a second set of two roller supports each support having a roller, spaced apart on a planar base;
- constraining a first arcuate member in the first set of rollers supported and a second arcuate member in the second set of rollers supported;
- joining bedframe by side rails to opposite ends of each arcuate member;
- positioning a motor on the planar base midway between the side rails of the bedframe;
- joining a first link to an output shaft of the motor, and a second link pivotally engaged to an end of the first link away from the output shaft of the motor, the second link pivotally engaged at an opposite end to the first side member of the bedframe;
- wherein the motor rotating imparts a sinusoidal motion to the bedframe alternately raising and lowering opposite sides of the bedframe, imparting a true arcuate rocking motion to the bedframe.
