Abstract
An apparatus for dispensing a polishing compound and a method for dispensing the polishing compound can include a head with a valve stem housing, and a reservoir handle, wherein a threaded shaft base is located within the reservoir handle and wherein a pusher plate is engaged with the threaded shaft base to pressurize a polishing compound. The apparatus can further include a valve assembly with an internal valve stem having perpendicular openings, and a dispensing pathway from the reservoir to the head. In some embodiments, the apparatus can be implemented as a valve-operated toothpaste dispensing toothbrush.
Claims20
An apparatus for dispensing a polishing compound, comprising:
- a head comprising a valve stem housing;
- a reservoir handle, wherein a threaded shaft base is located within the reservoir handle and wherein a pusher plate is engaged with the threaded shaft base to pressurize a polishing compound;
- a valve assembly with an internal valve stem having perpendicular openings;
- a valve tip to prevent ingress by contaminants, wherein the valve tip is gasketed and is located at the top of the internal valve stem;
- and
- a dispensing pathway from the reservoir to the head.
A valve-operated toothbrush, comprising:
- a head comprising a valve stem housing;
- a reservoir handle and a threaded shaft base, wherein the threaded shaft base is located within the reservoir handle, wherein a pusher plate is engaged with the threaded shaft base to pressurize a toothpaste and wherein the pusher plate is configured to move linearly along the threaded shaft base to maintain consistent pressurization of the toothpaste;
- a valve tip to prevent ingress by contaminants, wherein the valve tip is gasketed:
- a valve assembly with an internal valve stem having perpendicular openings;
- and
- a dispensing pathway from the reservoir to the head.

A method for dispensing a polishing compound, comprising:
- pressurizing a polishing compound within a reservoir handle by rotating a threaded shaft base, thereby moving a pusher plate along the threaded shaft base;
- directing the pressurized polishing compound through a dispensing pathway;
- controlling the flow of the polishing compound using a valve assembly with an internal valve stem having perpendicular openings, wherein the internal valve stem includes a gasketed valve tip located at a top of the internal valve stem to prevent ingress by contaminants;
- and
- dispensing the polishing compound from the reservoir to a head face through the valve stem housing.
