Managing risk content of an electronic file

A computer-implemented method for managing risk content of an electronic file, comprising:

• receiving, by one or more processors, an electronic file;
• receiving, by the one or more processors, a selection of at least one of a depth of risk content removal indicator or a confidence level associated with risk content removal in which the electronic file satisfies a threshold confidence value;
• applying, by the one or more processors, one or more policies based on the selection to process the electronic file by selectively implementing an iterative routine;
• determining a processing result of the electronic file based on the applied policies, comprising one or more of:
• passing the electronic file to a user;
• and
• converting the electronic file and passing the converted electronic file to the user;
• calculating an estimated response and recovery cost from ingestion of each electronic file based on two or more of a probability that that electronic file contains risk content, an amount of the electronic files ingested per a predefined time period, a probability that a computing system associated with the user will prevent harm to the computing system when that electronic file contains risk content, and an expected cost of an incident or breach when the computing system does not prevent harm to the computing system when that electronic file contains risk content;
• and
• providing, for presentation via a user interface, the estimated response and recovery cost.
