Abstract
A method of increasing at least one growth characteristic of a plant, the method comprising exposing the plant to volatile organic compounds (VOCs) produced by a Cladosporium sphaerospermum strain grown under aseptic conditions in or on a medium; where said exposure causes an increase in at least one growth characteristic of the treated plant compared to the growth characteristics of a plant of the same age not exposed to said VOCs.

A method of increasing at least one growth characteristic of a plant, the method comprising:
- growing a Cladosporium sphaerospermum strain in or on a medium under aseptic conditions, wherein said C. sphaerospermum produces volatile organic compounds (VOCs);
- and
- exposing said plant to the collective headspace of said C. sphaerospermum in a closed system to generate a treated plant;
- wherein said exposing causes an increase in at least one plant growth characteristic in said treated plant when compared to a non-exposed plant;
- and
- wherein said C. sphaerospermum is at least one of C. sphaerospermum having NRRL Accession No. 67603, C. sphaerospermum having NRRL Accession No. 8131, or C. sphaerospermum having NRRL Accession No. 67749.
A system for growing plants, the system comprising:
- a first container configured to grow a plant;
- and
- a second container configured to grow a fungal culture under aseptic conditions;
- wherein the first container and the second container are in gaseous communication with each other, and
- wherein the second container contains at least a growth medium and at least one of C. sphaerospermum having NRRL Accession No. 67603, C. sphaerospermum having NRRL Accession No. 8131, C. sphaerospermum having NRRL Accession No. 67749, or a mixture thereof.
A system for growing plants, the system comprising:
- a first container configured to grow a plant;
- and
- at least one C. sphaerospermum in or on a growth medium under aseptic conditions;
- wherein said C. sphaerospermum produces volatile organic compounds (VOCs);
- and
- wherein exposing said plant to the collective headspace of said C. sphaerospermum in a closed system causes an increase in at least one plant growth characteristic in said treated plant when compared to a non-exposed plant;
- and
- wherein said C. sphaerospermum is at least one of C. sphaerospermum having NRRL Accession No. 67603, C. sphaerospermum having NRRL Accession No. 8131, C. sphaerospermum having NRRL Accession No. 67749, or a mixture thereof.
