Abstract
Provided herein are methods and systems of molecular profiling of diseases, such as cancer. In some embodiments, the molecular profiling can be used to identify treatments for a disease, such as treatments that were not initially identified as a treatment for the disease or not expected to be a treatment for a particular disease.
Claims22
A computer system comprising:
- one or more processors;
- and
- computer memory that is in communication with the one or more processors and stores instructions that, when executed by the one or more processors, perform operations comprising:
- performing next generation sequencing on a plurality of molecular profiling targets of a biological sample obtained from a patient that has a particular cancer type, thereby obtaining sequencing results, wherein the plurality of molecular profiling targets include RNA and/or DNA from a group of genes comprising KRAS, BRAF, c-KIT, EGFR, and PI3K, and wherein the sequencing results provide at least one selected from a group consisting of gene expression analysis and nucleic acid sequence analysis;
- accessing, without using the particular cancer type, a first database of the computer system to obtain corresponding reference values;
- comparing the sequencing results to the corresponding reference values obtained from the first database of the computer system, wherein the corresponding reference values are not associated with the particular cancer type in the first database as part of the comparing;
- accessing the first database or another database to identify, from the comparing, at least one therapeutic agent based on an indication that the comparison indicates a likely benefit to the patient of the at least one therapeutic agent;
- and
- generating a patient profile report that presents the at least one therapeutic agent as a suitable agent for the patient.
