Abstract

Systems and methods related to trailer towing guidance for a vehicle. One system includes a display, a camera, a sensor, and an electronic controller. The controller includes an electronic processor configured to receive, from the camera, image data including a trailer coupled to the vehicle, receive, from the sensor, a characteristic of the vehicle, and determine, based on the image data and the characteristic, a current trajectory of the trailer. The processor is further configured to determine, based on the image data and the characteristic, one or more possible trajectories for the trailer, each of the one or more possible trajectories corresponding to a maneuver, select, from the one or more possible trajectories, a selected trajectory, and actively generate, on the display, a steering indication to a user of the vehicle including a first indication corresponding to the current trajectory and a second indication corresponding to the selected trajectory.
