Abstract
A downhole tool having a mandrel that includes an outer surface and an inner flowbore disposed therethrough. The downhole tool also includes a carrier ring engaged with the outer surface, as well as a slip. The slip has an at least one slip groove that forms a lateral opening in the slip that is defined by a depth that extends from a slip outer surface to a slip inner surface.
Claims20
A downhole tool for use in a wellbore, the downhole tool comprising:
- a mandrel comprising:
- a distal end;
- a proximate end;
- an outer surface;
- an inner flowbore disposed in the mandrel, and extending therethrough from the proximate end to the distal end;
- a carrier ring slidingly engaged with the outer surface, the carrier ring further comprising an outer seal element groove;
- a seal element is disposed in the outer seal element groove;
- and
- a slip engaged with the mandrel,
- wherein the slip comprises an at least one slip groove that forms a lateral opening in the slip that is defined by a depth that extends from a slip outer surface to a slip inner surface, and
- wherein the outer slip surface further comprises an at least one insert disposed therein.

A downhole tool for use in a wellbore, the downhole tool comprising:
- a cone member comprising:
- a distal end;
- a proximate end;
- an outer surface comprising an at least a portion that is frustoconical;
- an inner flowbore disposed in the cone member, and extending therethrough from the proximate end to the distal end;
- a carrier ring slidingly engaged with the outer surface, the carrier ring further comprising an outer seal element groove;
- a seal element disposed in the outer seal element groove;
- and
- a slip engaged with the cone member,
- wherein the slip further comprises an at least two slip segments adjoined by a first portion of slip material at a first slip end, and the two slip segments separated by an at least one slip groove therebetween, and which the at least one slip groove extends from the first portion of slip material to a second slip end resulting in a void of material at the second slip end between the at least two slip segments, and
- wherein the at least one slip groove forms a lateral opening in the slip that is defined by a depth that extends from a slip outer surface to a slip inner surface.
