Abstract

A foundation and lattice tower includes a base having a bottom plate and a top plate separated from the bottom plate. The foundation includes a plurality of interior walls between the top plate and the bottom plate such that spaced apart channels are formed therebetween. The foundation includes a plurality of outriggers pivotally attached to the top plate, wherein each of the plurality of outriggers is configured to be transported in a first, stowed position and positioned into a second, extended position to provide additionally stability to the base. A plurality of sections of the unassembled lattice tower is retained to the foundation as the foundation and the lattice tower are moved to a selected location. The foundation includes a gin pole pivotally secured to the base, the gin pole is configured to be rotate such that the assembled lattice tower is retained in a substantially vertical position.

Dependent claims

A foundation and lattice tower comprising:

a base comprising:
a bottom plate;
a top plate separated from the bottom plate with a plurality of spacers;
and
a plurality of interior walls between the top plate and the bottom plate such that spaced apart channels are formed therebetween:
a plurality of outriggers pivotally attached to the top plate, wherein each of the plurality of outriggers is configured to be transported in a first, stowed position and positioned into a second, extended position to provide additionally stability to the base;
a plurality of sections of the lattice tower, each of the plurality of sections being configured to be secured to the base when the foundation and the unassembled lattice tower to a selected location;
and
a gin pole pivotally secured to the base, the gin pole having a flange configured to attach to one of the plurality of sections, wherein after the plurality of sections are attached together to form the lattice tower, the gin pole is configured to rotate such that the lattice tower is retained in a substantially vertical position.

A method of raising a lattice tower comprising:

placing a foundation at a selected location;
moving each of a plurality of outriggers on the foundation from a stored position to an extend position;
securing the plurality of outriggers in the extended position;
removing a plurality of lattice tower sections from the foundation;
position a first lattice tower section on a bracket of a flange on a gin pole such that flanges of the fist lattice tower section and the central hub are proximate each other;
securing the proximate flanges with a plurality of securing mechanisms;
positioning an end of a second lattice tower section proximate distal end of the first lattice tower section such that the second lattice tower section is supported by a bracket on the first lattice tower section;
securing the flanges of the first and second lattice tower sections together with bolts and nuts;
repeating the positioning and securing steps until the lattice tower is assembled;
and
raising the lattice tower to a substantially vertical position with by retracting a cable attached to the gin pole attached to the central hub with a winch attached to the foundation.
