Abstract
A method for coating a reinforcing fiber with a ceramic is provided with: introducing the reinforcing fiber into an atmosphere including a gas-phase precursor; irradiating an irradiation point on the reinforcing fiber with a light beam so as to heat the irradiation point to 800 degrees C or higher, whereby the ceramic grows on the irradiation point; and moving the irradiation point along a length of the reinforcing fiber.
Claims5
A method for coating a reinforcing fiber with a ceramic, comprising:
- introducing the reinforcing fiber of silicon carbide coated with carbon, silicon carbide, silicon nitride, alumina, or boron nitride into an atmosphere including a gas-phase precursor;
- irradiating an irradiation point on the reinforcing fiber with a light beam so as to heat the irradiation point to 800 degrees C or higher, whereby the precursor is forced to react and generate the ceramic on the irradiation point on the reinforcing fiber;
- and
- moving the irradiation point along a length of the reinforcing fiber.
