Abstract
Disclosed are methods and systems for capturing carbon dioxide and utilizing calcium sulfate to generate useful products.
Claims21
A method of capturing CO2 and using calcium sulfate (CaSO4) to prepare a nitrogen (N), potassium (K), sulfur(S) fertilizer, the method comprising the steps of:
- (a) contacting calcium sulfate (CaSO4) with carbon dioxide (CO2), a source of potassium, and a source of ammonia, to generate a first product comprising calcium carbonate (CaCO3), ammonium sulfate ((NH4)2SO4), and potassium sulfate (K2SO4).
A system for capturing CO2 and using calcium sulfate (CaSO4) to prepare a nitrogen (N), potassium (K), sulfur(S) fertilizer, the system comprising:
- (a) a first reactor capable of receiving CaSO4, CO2, a source of potassium, and one or both of ammonia (NH3) and ammonium hydroxide (NH4OH) and providing conditions to generate a product comprising calcium carbonate (CaCO3), ammonium sulfate ((NH4)2SO4), and potassium sulfate (K2SO4).
-13. (canceled)
A fertilizer composition comprising calcium carbonate (CaCO3), ammonium sulfate ((NH4)2SO4), and potassium sulfate (K2SO4).
