Composite thin wingbox architecture for supersonic business jets

A wing comprising:

• a front spar and a rear spar separated by a distance;
• and
• a panel connected to the front spar and the rear spar and extending the distance between the front spar and the rear spar, the panel including:
• an outer face sheet forming an outer exterior surface of the panel, the outer face sheet comprising a plurality of first composite materials, the plurality of first composite materials comprising a first stack of plies;
• an inner face sheet forming an inner exterior surface of the panel, the inner face sheet comprising a plurality of second composite materials, the plurality of second composite materials comprising a second stack of plies;
• a plurality of foam pieces disposed between the outer face sheet and the inner face sheet, wherein the plurality of foam pieces are disposed in the distance between the two spars;
• and
• a plurality of planks arranged between the plurality of foam pieces, wherein the plurality of planks are disposed in the distance between the two spars, wherein a first plank of the plurality of planks extends between a first side of a first piece of the foam pieces and a second side of a second piece of the foam pieces, wherein the plurality of planks are comprised of the plurality of first composite materials;
• wherein in first regions, the outer face sheet is in face-sharing contact with the inner face sheet;
• and
• wherein in second regions, the foam pieces are positioned between and separate the outer face sheet from the inner face sheet.

A wing comprising:

• a front spar and a rear spar separated by a distance, wherein the distance between the front spar and the rear spar is a chord length of the wing;
• and
• a panel connected to the front spar and the rear spar and extending the distance between the front spar and the rear spar, the panel including:
• an outer face sheet forming an outer exterior surface of the panel, the outer face sheet comprising a plurality of first composite materials, the plurality of first composite materials comprising a first stack of plies;
• an inner face sheet forming an inner exterior surface of the panel, the inner face sheet comprising a plurality of second composite materials, the plurality of second composite materials comprising a second stack of plies;
• a plurality of foam pieces disposed between the outer face sheet and the inner face sheet, wherein the plurality of foam pieces are disposed in the distance between the two spars;
• and
• a plurality of planks arranged between the plurality of foam pieces, wherein the plurality of planks are disposed in the distance between the two spars, wherein a first plank of the plurality of planks extends between a first side of a first piece of the foam pieces and a second side of a second piece of the foam pieces, wherein the plurality of planks are comprised of the plurality of first composite materials;
• wherein in first regions, the outer face sheet is in face-sharing contact with the inner face sheet;
• wherein in second regions, the foam pieces are positioned between and separate the outer face sheet from the inner face sheet;
• and
• wherein the plurality of first composite materials comprise first fiber tows having a first orientation and a first density.
