Rear impact unit

Abstract

In order to provide a rear impact unit, which is mounted or mountable on a vehicle rear in a manner hidden by a bumper unit, and which extends transversely to a vehicle longitudinal direction and transversely to a vehicle longitudinal center plane, and which where necessary gives the possibility of forming a transverse carrier unit for a trailer coupling, it is proposed that the rear impact unit should comprise two box structures, which are arranged at a spacing from one another, and a central carrier, which is arranged between these and connects them to one another, that as a result of fixing the box structures on the vehicle rear a transverse carrier unit comprising the central carrier and box structures should be mountable, and that the box structures should be supported against the vehicle rear by mounting elements that are mountable thereon and are deformable in the event of a crash.
