The present disclosure relates to recognizing a user command in a display device for a vehicle capable of communicating with an external device, and may provide a display device for a vehicle comprising: a display unit; a user input unit; an in-vehicle client that communicates with an external device for executing an application for the external device to receive a first execution screen of the application for the external device from the external device and display same on the display unit, and receives a gesture list for the external device related to the first execution screen from the external device to generate a gesture recognition criterion for the external device; and a gesture recognizer that recognizes a gesture inputted through the user input unit while the first execution screen is displayed, on the basis of the gesture recognition criterion for the external device.
