Abstract
The present disclosure provides composite materials comprising a layer, sheet or web comprising wet-laid fibers and melt blown fibers. The wet-laid and melt blown fibers have basis weights and pore size distributions selected to optimize certain performance features of the composite material. In various embodiments, the ratio between the maximum pore size and the mean flow pore size or the pore size distribution (PSD) is less than about 2.5, or less than about 2.0. In embodiments wherein the composite material is used as a filter media, the filter media has an improved air permeability, contaminant removal efficiency and dust holding capacity.
Claims20
A composite material for use as a filter media, the composite material comprising:
- a layer comprising wet-laid fibers and melt blown fibers;
- and
- wherein the layer has a ratio of a maximum pore size to a mean flow pore size of about 2.5 or less.
A filter media comprising:
- a first layer comprising wet-laid fibers and melt blown fibers;
- and
- a support structure in contact with the first layer.
