Abstract
This document relates to methods and materials for treating a mammal having cancer. For example, compositions (e.g., vaccines) containing cells (e.g., tumor cells) expressing APOBEC3 which can be administered to a mammal (e.g., a human) having cancer to induce an immune response (e.g., an anti-tumor immune response) within the mammal are provided.

A method for making a tumor cell capable of creating tumor antigens, wherein said method comprises introducing a nucleic acid encoding an APOBEC3 polypeptide into a cancer cell.
A composition comprising a cell having a polypeptide comprising the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO:4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 14, 16, 18, 20, or 22.
A method for treating a cancer in a mammal, said method comprising administering to said mammal a composition comprising a cell having a polypeptide comprising the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO:4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 14, 16, 18, 20, or 22.
