Abstract
A bioglass composition in the form of a particle having a core portion, a crystalline zone and a surface layer. The surface layer is hydroxyapatite, where the crystalline layer is beneath the surface layer and surrounds the core portion. The bioglass composition includes 10 mole percent (mol. %) to 20 mol. % SiO2, 20 mol. % SrO, 20 mol. % Na2O, 20 mol. % CaO, and 30 mol. % to 40 mol. % B2O3.

A bioglass composition in the form of a particle, having:
- a core portion, a crystalline zone and a surface layer,
- wherein the surface layer is hydroxyapatite,
- wherein the crystalline layer is beneath the surface layer and surrounds the core portion;
- and
- wherein the bioglass composition comprises:
- 10-20 mol. % SiO2;
- 20 mol. % SrO;
- 20 mol. % Na2O;
- 20 mol. % CaO;
- and
- 30-40 mol. % B2O3.
