Abstract
An intermittent pneumatic compression system provides exhaust between a wrap and patient’s leg, avoids tubes and is operable on a conventional battery. The system allows true portability while improving patient discomfort, reducing fall risks, and providing desired therapeutic and prophylactic compression.

(canceled)
A portable intermittent pneumatic compression system comprising:
- a compression wrap comprising an inflatable bladder disposed within the compression wrap, wherein the compression wrap is configured to be wrapped around a leg of a user, wherein the inflatable bladder comprises:
- a first compartment with an inflation port;
- a second compartment with a pressure port;
- and
- a peninsula that separates the first compartment from the second compartment and provides a passageway between the first compartment to the second compartment;
- wherein the inflation port in the first compartment is remote from the pressure port in the second compartment;
- a housing mounted onto the compression wrap and is coupled to the inflation port and the pressure port, wherein the housing is mounted partially onto the first compartment, the second compartment, and the compression wrap, the housing comprises:
- a power source;
- an air pump coupled to the inflation port;
- a pressure sensor coupled to the pressure port, wherein the pressure sensor is adapted to measure air pressure of the said second compartment;
- and
- a controller adapted to control the air pump to pump air into the inflation port until the pressure sensor sensed a predetermined pressure.

A portable intermittent pneumatic compression system comprising:
- a flexible wrap comprising an inflatable bladder the has only two compartments, a first compartment and a second compartment separated by a longitudinal peninsula with a narrow passageway in the peninsula between the first compartment and the second compartment allowing for fluid flow between the first compartment and the second compartment;
- an air pumping module comprising a power supply, an air pump, an inflation port, a pressure port, a pressure sensor, and a controller adapted to control the air pump to pump air into the inflation port in view of air pressure measured from the pressure sensor through the pressure port;
- wherein the air pumping module comprises internal tubing to connect the air pump to the inflation port and internal tubing to connect the pressure sensor to the pressure port;
- wherein the air pumping module is mounted onto the flexible wrap with the inflation port disposed in the first compartment and the pressure port disposed in the second compartment;
- and
- wherein the inflation port is remote from the pressure port and separated by the longitudinal peninsula.
