A testing method of testing a participant's ability to detect or understand speech, and evaluate hearing, speech understanding and processing, and cognitive function. The method includes: (a) audibly presenting a series of 2 digits, 3 digits, 4 digits, 5 digits, in random or fixed orders, to both ears or a first ear of a participant in quiet or in noise at a fixed or varied. The digits can be in any language; (b) repeating the same procedures as (a) to a second ear (c) recording digits or digit sequences identified correctly by the participant; and (d) recoding reaction time to repeat digits, (e) calculating scores based on the percentage of digits or digit sequences repeated correctly by the participant or the difference in level between speech and noise to yield 50% of the digit sequences being identified correctly.
A method of testing a participant's ability to accurately detect speech in the presence of background noise includes:
An apparatus for measuring digit recognition in relation to hearing loss, comprising:
A method for measuring digit recognition in relation to hearing loss, comprising:
A computer-implement method (CIM) for assessing a participant's ability to detect speech, the CIM comprising:
A computer-implemented method (CIM) for developing test materials for assessing a participant's ability to detect speech, the CIM comprising:
